Press Releases
SFH on preventive measures against Ebola virus disease
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending the 4th Asia-Pacific Economic
Cooperation High-Level Meeting on Health and the Economy in Beijing this
afternoon (August 15):
Reporter: (On preventive measures against Ebola virus disease.)
Secretary for Food and Health: We are very concerned about the threat posed
by the Ebola virus disease. Since its outbreak in West Africa, there has no
evidence demonstrating that the disease has been brought under control. Many
places, including Hong Kong, considered it as an issue of significant
concern. Hong Kong, like many other countries, has activated a very
stringent level of surveillance, particularly in the airport and other
ground border checkpoints. We have also stepped up preparedness at our
hospitals and streamlined the logistics in arranging suspected cases to be
investigated and isolated.
