SFH visits Macau
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man,
will depart for Macau tomorrow morning (December 17) to learn more about the
research and development facilities for Chinese medicine there and to
witness the signing of a co-operation agreement between the food safety
departments of Macau and Hong Kong.
Dr Ko will first tour the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in
Chinese Medicines situated at the University of Macau (UM) and the Macau
University of Science and Technology (MUST). With an aim of promoting
innovation and international development of Chinese medicine, the first ever
State Key Laboratory was jointly established by the UM's Institute of
Chinese Medical Sciences and MUST with the approval of the Ministry of
Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China.
In the afternoon, Dr Ko will attend a ceremony with Macau's Secretary
for Administration and Justice, Ms Florinda da Rosa Silva Chan, to witness
the signing of a co-operation agreement between the Civic and Municipal
Affairs Bureau of Macau and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of
Hong Kong.
The agreement will strengthen mutual co-operation and exchange of
information on food safety as well as enhancing the safety of consumer food
products, so as to raise the standard of safety management and technical
protection for food products in both places.
After the signing ceremony, representatives of the two places will hold
a meeting to exchange views on various aspects concerning food safety and
learn more about the operation of Macau's Food Safety Centre.
Dr Ko will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon.
