SFH to attend annual food, health and quarantine meeting
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, will depart for Shenzhen
tomorrow morning (November 7) to attend the 2013 Guangdong, Hong Kong,
Macao, Shenzhen, Zhuhai Health, Animal and Plant Quarantine and Food Safety
Control Meeting.
The meeting will be held tomorrow and on November 8 in Shenzhen. By
facilitating exchanges and discussion among experts from the five places,
the annual meeting serves as a platform for further strengthening
co-operation in health, animal and plant quarantine and food safety control.
Topics including health inspection and quarantine issues, animals and foods
of animal origin, plants and foods of plant origin, and food safety and
control will be discussed in this year's meeting.
Dr Ko will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the meeting tomorrow
morning and will attend a ceremony to witness the signing of an action plan
on facilitation of inspection and quarantine clearance by representatives of
the five places. The action plan will reaffirm and strengthen exchange and
co-operation in areas including health inspection and quarantine issues,
animal and plant quarantine, food safety control and clearance facilitation.
Other representatives of the Hong Kong delegation attending the meeting will
include the Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Food), Mrs Marion Lai;
the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Mr Alan Wong; and
the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Clement Leung.
Dr Ko will return to Hong Kong tomorrow afternoon.
