SFH continues Beijing visit (with photos)
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, continued his visit to
Beijing on its second day today (August 27).
Dr Ko, together with the Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Health),
Mr Richard Yuen; the Director of Health, Dr Constance Chan; the Chairman of
the Hospital Authority, Mr Anthony Wu; and the Chief Executive of the
Hospital Authority, Dr Leung Pak-yin, called on the Minister of Health, Dr
Chen Zhu, this morning to discuss health-related issues of mutual concern.
Dr Ko told Dr Chen that the partnership between Hong Kong's medical sector
and the Mainland has been further strengthened. The signing of Supplement IX
to the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement not
only enables Hong Kong medical service providers to access the Mainland
market, but also provides more medical choices for patients.
The delegation then met with the Commissioner of the State Food and Drug
Administration, Mr Yin Li, to exchange views and experiences on medicine
registration and safety, as well as clinical trials. Dr Ko said he hopes
that the Mainland and Hong Kong health authorities would continue to
strengthen ties and exchanges between the two sides to protect people's
health.
Apart from visiting medical and health authorities, Dr Ko this morning paid
a courtesy call on the Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs
Office of the State Council, Mr Zhou Bo.
The delegation will attend a dinner hosted by the Commissioner of the State
Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Professor Wang Guoqiang, and
will exchange experiences on the development of Chinese medicines during the
dinner. Dr Ko will visit the State General Administration of Quality
Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine tomorrow.
