Press Releases
SFH on recruitment of non-local doctors
Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) made by the
Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, at a media session after
attending a radio programme at Radio Television Hong Kong this morning
(October 26):
Reporter: How can you ease the concern of local medical practitioners about
the hiring of overseas doctors?
Secretary for Food and Health: They have to understand that the employment
of these specified temporary registration doctors working in special
departments of the Hospital Authority will not pose any competition to local
private practitioners. I think they would definitely help the public medical
sector to continue their services and also be able to cope with the capacity
that requires.
Reporter: Will you give certain priority to doctors of specific medical
speciality?
Secretary for Food and Health: This depends on the assessment of the
Hospital Authority. At the moment, they think that doctors working in the
Accident and Emergency (A&E) Departments are particularly short. That is why
they are concentrating on the employment of A&E experienced doctors.
