SFH learns about medical and funeral services in Shanghai (with photos)
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (October 22)
continued his visit to Shanghai. He called on the Director of the Shanghai
Municipal Health Bureau, Mr Xu Jianguang, this morning to learn more about
the food safety measures for Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Shanghai Expo). They
also shared their experiences in carrying out healthcare reform and tobacco
control measures in the two places.
Dr Chow then visited the Shanghai Shenkang Hospital Development Centre and
met its Director, Dr Chen Jianping, to discuss problems facing the
healthcare reforms and services in both places. The Centre was set up by the
Shanghai Municipal Government in 2005 as a hospital management centre. Since
its establishment, the Centre has been working closely with Hong Kong's
Hospital Authority in experience sharing.
In the afternoon, Dr Chow visited the Affiliated Children's Hospital of
Fudan University with the aim of drawing experience from it for the later
establishment in Hong Kong of a medical centre of excellence in paediatrics.
The paediatrics hospital provides a full range of clinical, education and
research services, with 630 hospital beds and 28 clinical teaching rooms. It
is the teaching arm of the Department of Paediatrics of Fudan University,
providing training to postgraduates, undergraduates and graduate students,
as well as medical professionals.
Dr Chow then met the Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Municipal Civil
Affairs Bureau, Mr Wang Wanli, to learn about provision of funeral
facilities there. They also exchanged views on how to formulate policy and
standards on funeral-related matters.
Dr Chow yesterday visited the Shanghai Expo and toured the China Pavilion,
Hong Kong Pavilion and Hong Kong's Urban Best Practices Area Exhibition.
