SFH to visit Singapore
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, will fly to Singapore on
Sunday (March 28) for a five-day visit to study the country's health,
environmental hygiene and food safety systems and to attend the "Healthcare
in Asia 2010" conference.
Dr Chow will call on Singapore's Minister of Health, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, and
meet ministry officials to exchange views on healthcare financing issues.
Dr Chow will have a meeting with Professor Tan Ser Kiat, the Group Chief
Executive Officer of Singapore Health Services (SingHealth), on March 29 to
learn more about the public healthcare system in Singapore.
SingHealth is a public healthcare cluster of three hospitals, five national
specialty centres and a network of primary care polyclinics.
Dr Chow will then visit the National Heart Centre Singapore, the National
Cancer Centre Singapore and Singapore General Hospital under the Singhealth
Group.
On March 30, Dr Chow will speak at "Healthcare in Asia 2010", a conference
organised by The Economist, introducing to the participating international
health experts Hong Kong's healthcare system as well as the challenges and
reforms ahead.
He will also visit Khoo Teck Puat Hospital which is a 550-bed new acute
general care hospital. Dr Chow will share experiences and exchange views
with the hospital management on the use of the electronic health record
sharing system.
Turning to food safety and environmental hygiene, Dr Chow will hold a
meeting with the National Environment Agency on March 31 to learn more about
the implementation of the agency's Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme and
its general policy and specific measures to preserve and revitalise hawker
centres in Singapore.
He will call on the Chief Executive Officer of the Agri-Food and Veterinary
Authority, Ms Tan Poh Hong, to promote closer liaison and more frequent
exchanges with the authority on food safety and supply issues.
Dr Chow will also pay a visit to the Marine Aquaculture Centre to learn more
about Singapore's experience in facilitating the development of large-scale
hatchery and fish farming production.
Before returning to Hong Kong on April 1, Dr Chow will meet the Chief
Executive Officer of the Health Sciences Authority, Dr John Lim, and
SingHealth Group Director Clinical Research, Professor Fong Kok Yong, to
exchange views on clinical research.
