SFH visits Tokyo (with photos)
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (November 25) flies
to Tokyo, Japan, to visit health, food safety and funeral facilities there.
He will stay in Tokyo for four days and return to Hong Kong on Saturday
(November 28).
Dr Chow will call on the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms
Chinami Nishimura, after arriving in Tokyo this afternoon.
He will go to the National Centre of Neurology and Psychiatry tomorrow
(November 26). The centre comprises several renowned psychiatry and
neurology hospital and research institutions. He will also visit the
National Centre for Child Medical Health and Development, which is dedicated
to paediatrics and maternal health.
The operation experience of these two centres can serve as a reference to
the Government in planning the establishment of multi-partite medical
centres of excellence in paediatrics and neuroscience in Hong Kong.
On Friday (November 27) Dr Chow will meet the Senior Vice-Minister of
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr Masahiko Yamada, to exchange views
on the protection of food safety of aquatic products and the use of radio
frequency identification technique in food tracing. He will also go to a
company to see the application of its technology on food traceability.
Dr Chow will also visit two funeral facilities - Tama Reien and Kannai
Ryokuen, to see whether Hong Kong can draw on their experience. Tama Reien
was built by Tokyo Metropolitan Government, while Kannai Ryokuen is a
privately operated multi-storey columbarium which is installed with
automatic urn conveyance system and Internet-based praying system.
On Saturday morning (November 28) Dr Chow will go to Tsukiji Fish Market to
learn how the market handles food hygiene and safety issues.
