SFH visits Guangdong
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, leaves today (September 1)
for a two-day visit to Guangdong province. He will meet officials of the
Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (GDCIQ) and visit
oyster and marine fish farms in Yangjiang.
Dr Chow will meet the director of GDCIQ, Mr Li Yanhui, in Guangzhou today to
exchange views on food safety issues which are of mutual concern, and foster
co-operation between the two sides.
Accompanied by GDCIQ deputy director Mr Huang Weiming, Dr Chow will go to
Yangjiang in the afternoon to visit a marine fish farm. The farm cultures
about 11 kinds of marine fishes with an annual supply of about 229 tonnes.
Tomorrow morning, Dr Chow will visit an oyster farming zone, which has about
300 farmers and produces about 60,000 tonnes of oysters a year.
Before returning to Hong Kong, Dr Chow will go to Xinhui in the afternoon to
visit a Hong Kong-funded food enterprise to learn more about its food
hygiene standard.
