SFH to attend international symposium on influenza
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, leaves for Beijing today
(August 20) to attend the International Scientific Symposium on Influenza
Pandemic Response and Preparedness organised by the Ministry of Health.
Dr Chow will exchange views with officials and experts in public health and
disease control from all over the world at the symposium on how to deal with
the threat posed to human health by influenza pandemic from the scientific
and public health perspectives.
The two-day symposium will be opened tomorrow (August 21). Global experts
will gather to review the latest development of human swine flu, explore the
public health policies and implementation strategies to tackle with possible
H1N1, H5N1 and seasonal influenza pandemics, discuss clinical management and
prevention of influenza as well as vaccine development. They will also share
experience in preparing for influenza pandemic in winter and pandemic
surveillance.
Dr Chow will return to Hong Kong on Saturday (August 22).
