About Chinese Medicine Hospital Project
Progress on the Planning and Development of the Chinese Medicine Hospital
To take forward the planning and development of the project on the Chinese medicine hospital (CMH), a designated office i.e. the CMH Project Office (CMHPO), was established under the Health Bureau (the former Food and Health Bureau) on 2 May 2018. The Government launched the prequalification exercise of the first stage of tendering for operation of the CMH and the second stage of tendering in September 2019 and September 2020, respectively. Upon the completion of tender assessment conducted in accordance with the selection criteria and marking scheme as set out in the tender documents, the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) was eventually selected as the Contractor for the service deed. The HKBU, as the Contractor, has incorporated a company limited by guarantee, namely HKBU Chinese Medicine Hospital Company Limited as the Operator on 23 November 2021 to manage, operate and maintain the CMH. The Contractor and the Operator are working with the Health Bureau in the preparatory work for service commencement of the CMH, such as the detailed design of the CMH, procurement of furniture and equipment, setting up of information technology systems and acquiring the necessary licences for the operation of the CMH.
The Health Bureau has also been closely working with the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) for the design and construction of the CMH. The tendering exercise led by the ArchSD had been concluded and the contract for design and construction of the CMH and the Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute was awarded to the China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited in June 2021. Construction works was commenced on 30 June 2021.
The CMH project has proceeded to the commissioning stage from mid-2021. The CMH has been named "The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong" on 9 October 2024 and is targeted to commence hospital services by phases in end-2025.
