Transcript of remarks by SFH at media session
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, after visiting Queen Elizabeth Hospital today (August 10):
Reporter: There are already two cases of dengue fever. Is there a risk of turning into a large scale outbreak? What short-term and long-term measures will you carry out?
Secretary for Food and Health: As far as dengue fever is concerned, obviously we are concerned that there is a second case of dengue fever discovered yesterday. What the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and other departments are doing is to strengthen the mosquito control measures in the vicinity where the patients are living. On the other hand, they are also looking into additional and new measures to help mosquito control. Nevertheless, mosquitoes can fly everywhere. Therefore, it is also important for individuals, for example, operators of construction sites to be mindful of their own situation (to monitor) whether there is lots of water accumulating in the site, and individuals at home and at workplace (to maintain strict environmental hygiene) as well. I think these measures are important.
