Press Releases
SFH on mental health
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary
for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a
public function today (December 3):
Reporter: How do you eliminate the discrimination against
mental disorder patients in the society?
Secretary for Food and Health: I think mental health
services have been evolving in the past several decades into
a more open and community-oriented services. In the past,
many of our patients were treated in an enclosed environment
and thereby creating stigma against mental health
rehabilitation cases. Our mental healthcare professionals
have been doing a lot of work, for example, the Castle Peak
Hospital established an institute of mental health as early
as 2002. One of the most important missions of the institute
of mental health is to promote awareness and understanding
of mental health amongst members of the public so that
stigma could be removed.
