Chinese Medicine (Fees) Regulation

The Chinese Medicine (Fees) Regulation 2000 to provide for the fees relating to the registration of Chinese medicine practitioners under the Chinese Medicine Ordinance was published in the Gazette today (March 24).

Fees are payable for application for registration as a registered Chinese medicine practitioner, taking Licensing Examination, application for issue of relevant certificates and documents and review of results of Licensing Examination.

A Government spokesman explained that the Government policy on fee charging was to set fees at levels sufficient to recover the cost of providing the services.

"We expect to start the registration of Chinese medicine practitioners in the next few months," he said.

The Regulation will be tabled at the Legislative Council on 29 March 2000.

Another two regulations - on the registration procedures for Chinese medicine practitioners and on the disciplinary procedures to be followed in handling complaints against registered Chinese medicine practitioners - will have to be made before the registration of Chinese medicine practitioners can commence. These two regulations are being finalised by the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong and will be tabled at the Legislative Council in the near future.
