Press Releases
SFH on maternal death cases in Queen Elizabeth Hospital
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary
for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a
public function today (December 22):
Reporter: Does that mean that the staff (of Queen Elizabeth
Hospital) are not well-trained enough to handle such kind of
complications? What other things will the Government do to
prevent such cases from happening ever?
Secretary for Food and Health: I am very concerned about the
occurrence of two maternal death cases in a very short
period of time. Therefore, I will read the investigation
reports done by the Hospital Authority (HA) very cautiously
and seriously. In one of the cases, some of the causes or
factors have been identified. The HA has promised to improve
staff training in this particular area. For the other case,
an independent investigation committee has just been set up.
I would read both investigation reports carefully and make
sure that the HA would do everything possible to improve its
services and prevent occurrence of similar cases.
