Appointments to Expert Committee on Food Safety
The Government announced today (September 14) the
re-appointment of Professor Ma Ching-yung and Professor Chen
Zhen-yu as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Expert
Committee on Food Safety respectively.
The Government also appointed six new members and
reappointed 14 incumbent members to the Expert Committee.
All appointments last for a term of two years with effect
from tomorrow (September 15).
The six new members are all local representatives. They are
Mr Kenneth Chan Kin-nin, Dr Olivia Chan Sinn-kay, Mr Cheng
Kit-man, Mr Sunny Lee Wai-kwong, Dr Wendy Ma Lynn and Dr
Jennifer Wan Man-fan.
Mr Chan is President of the Hong Kong Food Council.
Dr Chan is a private practice veterinarian. She also serves
as a member of the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong
and the Animal Welfare Advisory Group of the Agriculture,
Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD).
Mr Cheng is a retired senior physicist of the Department of
Health (DH). He is an expert in radiation.
Mr Lee is Vice-President (Administration) of the City
University of Hong Kong. He is also Chairman of the
Committee on Information Technology Training and Development
of Vocational Training Council, and a member of the Risk
Communication Advisory Group of the DH's Centre for Health
Protection.
Dr Ma is senior programme director of the College of Life
Sciences and Technology of the HKU School of Professional
and Continuing Education. She is also Vice-Chairperson of
the Hong Kong Dietitians Association.
Dr Wan is Associate Professor of the School of Biological
Science of the University of Hong Kong. She is an expert in
nutrition and food sciences.
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, said that
food safety is one of the priorities of the Government. He
looks forward to the views provided by members of the Expert
Committee to the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene
(DFEH) on matters relating to food safety.
He also thanked the outgoing members, namely Dr Lawrence
Chan, Professor Annisa Lee, Dr Edmund Li, Ms Lina Lim,
Professor Leo Sin and Dr Wong Man-sau, for their invaluable
contribution to the Expert Committee.
The Expert Committee advises the DFEH on existing or new
food safety operational strategies and measures to protect
public health. It also advises the DFEH on standards or
guidelines relating to food safety and food composition
having regard to international practices, trends and
developments.
