Press Releases
SFH on healthcare manpower
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function today (June 17):
Reporter: ... are the hospitals facing the problem of manpower shortage and
how it can be solved?
Secretary for Food and Health: We all know that the healthcare system in
Hong Kong is facing a severe challenge of the rising demand for mental and
healthcare services because of the rapidly ageing population. So both in
terms of hospital facilities as well as manpower, we are under a very tight
situation. The Government has conducted a strategic review on the healthcare
manpower situation. It is now close to the conclusion. The report will be
released in the second half of this year. By that time, we will suggest some
solutions including increasing the training capability as well as the full
utilisation of all existing human resources to provide the best service to
the patients.
