Tripartite task force set up to seek co-operation in biotechnology and regenerative medicine (with photo)
A tripartite task force was set up between the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region Government, the Municipal Government of Shenzhen and
the Karolinska Institutet of Sweden today (April 25) to explore co-operation
opportunities by leveraging the strengths of Hong Kong and Sweden in
regenerative and advanced medicine research as well as the strong industrial
production capabilities of Shenzhen.
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Karolinska Institutet Tripartite Task Force held its
first meeting today, which was attended by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man; the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr
Nicholas W Yang; Vice Mayor of Shenzhen, Mr Ai Xuefeng; and Deputy
Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs of the Karolinska Institutet,
Professor Maria Masucci.
The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the research and
development of regenerative medicine, and devised an outline co-operation
strategy with regard to the respective competences of the three parties.
"We are hopeful that our collaboration on the biomedical and
biotechnological fronts will bring new cures and innovative approaches in
tackling different illnesses, and hence make contributions to the
advancement of medical science for the betterment of human life," a
spokesman for the Food and Health Bureau said.
