Press Releases
SFH on pregnant nurses and Medical Registration Ordinance
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function today (April 22):
Reporter: (On pregnant nurses exempted from night shift duty,) would 32
weeks be too late?
Secretary for Food and Health: I would like to stress again that the
Hospital Authority (HA) is now conducting a review on the mechanism for
relieving our pregnant staff from some of the duties. In the process, HA
certainly would consider opinions given by relevant specialists, including
our specialists in obstetrics and gynecology.
Reporter: (On Hong Kong Medical Association's response to Medical
Registration (Amendment) bill)
Secretary for Food and Health: Let me repeat that the Hong Kong Academy of
Medicine is the highest academic organisation in the specialist training in
Hong Kong. At the same time, it is also a statutory organisation with its
own internal rules and regulations. We should respect the Council of the
Academy in determining what is the appropriate procedure for the election of
their representatives to the Hong Kong Medical Council.
