SFH visits Sha Tin District (with photos)
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, visited Sha Tin District
this afternoon (March 4) to see for himself the environmental hygiene
condition and funeral facility development in the district.
Accompanied by the District Officer (Sha Tin), Ms Cora Ho, Dr Ko first went
to Shan Ha Wai Tsuen to inspect the anti-mosquito work of the Food and
Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD). He pointed out that according to
the latest announcement by the FEHD the monthly territory-wide ovitrap index
for Aedes albopictus for January was zero per cent, but in the face of the
threat posed by a number of mosquito-borne diseases including dengue fever
and Zika virus, the Government will stay vigilant. Various government
departments will continue to adopt mosquito control measures to prevent the
spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
Dr Ko then visited Fu Shan Public Mortuary and inspected the proposed site
of the new Fu Shan Public Mortuary to learn more about the mortuary
operation and the proposal for reprovisioning mortuary facilities. The
Government will consult the Sha Tin District Council about the proposal
shortly.
Afterwards, he proceeded to the proposed public columbarium site in Shek Mun,
which is one of the sites identified for the Government's district-based
public columbarium development scheme. Some 40 000 public niches are
expected to be provided if the columbarium is built. The project is expected
to be submitted to Sha Tin District Council for consideration later this
year.
Before concluding his visit, Dr Ko met with members of Sha Tin District
Council to listen to their views on matters under the purview of the Food
and Health Bureau.
