Ten health promotion projects were commended at the Health Promotion
Symposium 2015 organised by the Research Office of the Food and Health
Bureau (FHB) today (November 20), in recognition of their outstanding
contributions to health promotion and disease prevention.
These projects, funded by the Health Care and Promotion Fund (HCPF) under
the FHB, cover a wide range of health topics, including tobacco control,
healthy diet, physical exercise, mental health, injury prevention, parenting
and healthy ageing.
Under the theme "Dissemination and Implementation Science in Health
Promotion", the Health Promotion Symposium presented a fine selection of
excellent projects supported by the HCPF and showcased their outcomes in the
parallel sessions and poster exhibition.
Officiating at the opening ceremony of the symposium, the Secretary for Food
and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, said this year's symposium highlighted the
importance of evidence-based practices in health promotion.
"For health promotion interventions to be effective and sustainable, a
collaborative partnership among stakeholders is imperative. Tobacco control
is one of the successful examples to demonstrate the effectiveness in
translating accumulated evidence and efforts into health policy," he said.
Bringing together academics, healthcare professionals, and government and
non-governmental organisation representatives, the symposium served as a
platform for stakeholders to network and collaborate. An internationally
renowned public health expert, Professor Alice Ammerman from the University
of North Carolina, delivered a keynote lecture on the theme of the
symposium.
