Press Releases
SFH on lung transplant and VHIS
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a radio programme today (October 2):
Reporter: (On the situation of the patient who is waiting for lung
transplant.)
Secretary for Food and Health: I have sought to understand the condition of
the patient from the doctor in charge this morning. Bleeding on the right
side of the patient's lung has temporarily stopped, and the doctor has
cleared some of the secretion from the left side of the lung through a
bronchoscopic procedure. The patient's overall condition is relatively
stable, but she is still in a critical condition. The only hope for the
patient is to have a chance of lung transplant.
Reporter: As progress is being made (on the Voluntary Health Insurance
Scheme), are you worried about any political pressure you will encounter
when reaching consensus with the industry, the Government and LegCo?
Secretary for Food and Health: I believe and I am also optimistic that both
the Government and the industry are holding a positive and constructive view
towards enhancing the function of private health insurance to supplement
whatever mechanism we have in balancing the public and private healthcare
services in Hong Kong.
