SFH on suspected food poisoning cases and lead in drinking water incident

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function today (August 4):

Reporter: (About suspected food poisoning cases.)

Secretary for Food and Health: Firstly, we have already announced a total ban of the concerned brand of sandwiches from Taiwan, through the press releases issued by the Centre for Health Protection as well as the Centre for Food Safety (CFS). Secondly, the CFS has conducted inspections at retail spots to make sure that the concerned product is no longer available at the market.

Reporter: (About the capacity of blood lead level testing.)

Secretary for Food and Health: I think we are reaching a limitation in terms of the capacity of public hospitals to take blood samples, particularly many of these residents are children, as well as the laboratory testing capacity. Although the Hospital Authority is trying its very best to enhance the capacity in both areas, we still anticipate a limitation in the throughput of blood testing for our residents. Therefore, there is a need for us to adhere to certain priority setting.
