Press Releases
SFH on suspected illegal practice of medicine
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, before attending a public function today (June 22):
Reporter: (about the lack of regulation on traditional Chinese medicine
clinic)
Secretary for Food and Health: Our bureau is very concerned about this
incident which had caused the life of a citizen. Now it is under the
investigation by the Police. The initial direction of the investigation will
include whether anybody has been involved in practising Chinese medicine
without the required registration or a licence. At this stage, I will not
comment on the details of this particular case. Another aspect is the
concerned equipment involved delivery of electricity to the victim. In this
context, I would like to say that the Department of Health is in the process
of arranging a consultancy study to advise the Government on the direction
of future legislation on the regulation of medical equipment. We hope that
by the end of this year or early next year, we can have the result of the
study as well as a report to the Legco panel on the detailed legislative
proposal.

Chinese portion of the transcript.)
