Appointments to Advisory Council on Food and Environmental Hygiene announced
The Government today (March 27) announced that the Chief Executive has
appointed Professor Lo Yuk-lam as the Chairman of the Advisory Council on
Food and Environmental Hygiene for a term of two years with effect from
April 1, 2015. Professor Lo is an expert in the field of biotechnology and
has been serving on the Council as a member since 2009.
At the same time, 11 new members have been appointed and five serving
members have been re-appointed to the Council. All appointments are for a
term of two years from April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2017.
The new members are Dr Au Wai-ting, Dr Felix Chan Hon-wai, Mr Chan Wai-ming,
Mrs Vivien Chen Chou Mei-mei, Professor Chiu Siu-wai, Mrs Jenny Lam Wan Mei-fong,
Mr Stephen Leung Kwok-keung, Dr Leo Poon Lit-man, Mr Simon Tam Hop-sing,
Professor Wong Wing-tak and Professor Samuel Wong Yeung-shan.
Dr Au Wai-ting is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and
Chemistry, the City University of Hong Kong.
Dr Felix Chan Hon-wai is the Service Director (Primary and Community Health
Care), Hong Kong West Cluster, Hospital Authority; Consultant Geriatrician
of TWGHs Fung Yiu King Hospital; and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor
of the University of Hong Kong.
Mr Chan Wai-ming is an elected Tsuen Wan District Councillor.
Mrs Vivien Chen Chou Mei-mei is the Executive Director of Integrated Chinese
Medicine Holdings Ltd, a company specialising in education and clinical
consultation about Chinese medicine and Chinese herbal supplements.
Professor Chiu Siu-wai is an honorary senior research fellow and part-time
lecturer at the School of Life Sciences and honorary senior college tutor at
Chung Chi College at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Mrs Jenny Lam Wan Mei-fong is the Chief Executive Officer of Cathay Pacific
Catering Services (HK) Ltd.
Mr Stephen Leung Kwok-keung is the Country Manager of Pfizer Hong Kong and a
registered pharmacist.
Dr Leo Poon Lit-man is an Associate Professor in the School of Public
Health, the University of Hong Kong.
Mr Simon Tam Hop-sing is the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Federation
of Restaurants & Related Trades Ltd.
Professor Wong Wing-tak is the Chair Professor of Chemical Technology and
the Head of the Applied Biology and Chemical Technology Department, the Hong
Kong Polytechnic University.
Professor Samuel Wong Yeung-shan is the Head of the Division of Family
Medicine and Primary Healthcare and the Associate Director in Undergraduate
Education of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, the
Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Welcoming the new appointments, the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko
Wing-man, said he believed the Council would be able to benefit from their
wise counsel and expertise when tendering advice to the Government on food
and environmental hygiene issues.
Dr Ko also expressed gratitude to the outgoing Chairman, Mr Felix Fong Wo,
and nine outgoing members, namely Professor Paul Chan Kay-sheung, Professor
Thomas Chan Yan-keung, Ms Phyllis Cheuk Fung-ting, Mr Allen Ho, Dr Ho Pak-leung,
Mr Alan Lee Chi-keung, Dr Lilian Leong Fung Ling-yee, Ms Winnie Li Hiu-lee
and Professor Wong Po-choi. All of them have served on the Council for six
years.
"We are particularly thankful to Mr Fong, who has served as the Chairman of
the Council for the past six years and as a member for four years prior to
that. Under his able leadership, the Council has provided valuable advice to
the Government on a wide range of weighty issues including the Private
Columbaria Bill, prevention and surveillance against avian influenza, the
substandard lard incident and food safety issues of cooking oil,
implementation of the Food Safety Ordinance and the nutrition labelling
scheme.
"For the coming term, we are glad to have Professor Lo Yuk-lam as the
Chairman of the Council. Professor Lo has served as a member of the Council
for the past six years. With his profound experience and expertise, I am
certain we can continue to count on him as well as the members of the
Council for advice and insights for further enhancement of our service to
the public," Dr Ko said.
The Council is a non-statutory body established on April 1, 2000, to advise
the Government on food and environmental hygiene issues. The Council
comprises a Chairman, 16 non-official members and four ex-officio members.
