SFH on FEHD officer injured on duty
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after visiting a hawker control officer of the Food
and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), who was injured on duty, at the
Queen Mary Hospital today (March 16):
Reporter: How do you describe the attack on the FEHD officer and what sort
of injuries did he suffer?
Secretary for Food and Health: We are very concerned about the personal
safety of our law enforcement officers. In this circumstance, Mr Wu suffered
a serious head injury. Despite the very active measures including operation
and resuscitation, he is still in critical condition. We had the opportunity
to meet Mr Wu's relatives a moment ago. We have explained to them the
situation and assured them that we will offer our assistance to them.
Reporter: (on the way the officers handle these cases)
Secretary for Food and Health: I think the Department will certainly review
the situation and see what we can do to enhance the training as well as the
protection of our front line law enforcement officers. I think the exact
circumstances of this particular incident will be clear after the completion
of investigation by the Police.
