Press Releases
SFH on supply of live poultry
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function this morning
(January 5):
Reporter: How to improve the delivery arrangement to satisfy both the
chicken traders and Ta Kwu Ling residents (regarding the Ta Kwu Ling
checkpoint)?
Secretary for Food and Health: The current proposal is for a relatively
small number of live chickens to be released from the local farms. We need
to test upon the operational arrangement to find out whether it is feasible
or not. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) will
have to further discuss with the farmers and come up with an operational
arrangement that can address the concern of local residents on minimising
the risks of infection, environmental pollution as well as possible traffic
congestion. I am hopeful that the AFCD can devise such an operational plan,
after which the department will seek to communicate and explain to the local
residents so as to gain their understanding.
