Press Releases
SFH on stress test on powdered formula
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for
Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function
this afternoon (September 29):
Reporter: (on stress test)
Secretary for Food and Health: I think we all understand that
roughly half a year ago, when the Legislative Council was examining
the Import and Export (General)(Amendment) Regulation 2013, we had
already announced that there would be a review in one year. Later
on, the Government listened to opinions expressed in the community
and decided that we would also conduct a review in six months, which
corresponds to the long holiday around the National Day. This is the
background (of the stress test).
Secondly, there are a lot of phenomena surrounding the stress test.
All these will be taken into account when we examine the result of
the stress test.
Lastly, I want to reassure parents of our babies that we would
consider lifting the restriction only when the Government is fully
assured that the supply and retail chain for powdered formula is
entirely able to meet our local demand.

Chinese portion of the transcript.)
