Appointment of Chairman to the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong
The Government announced today (September 13) the appointment of
Professor Ching Pak-chung as Chairman of the Veterinary Surgeons
Board of Hong Kong (VSB) for three years from September 15, 2013 to
September 14, 2016.
Professor Ching is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor/Vice-President and
Professor of Electronic Engineering of the Chinese University of
Hong Kong (CUHK). He also serves as Director of CUHK Shenzhen
Research Institute. Professor Ching is currently Chairman of the
Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification and a member of the
Steering Committee on Innovation and Technology.
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, thanked Professor
Ching for accepting the appointment. He is confident that Professor
Ching will continue to uphold high veterinary standards in Hong Kong
and lead the VSB to scale new heights.
Dr Ko also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Chairman,
Professor Wong Yuk-shan, for his distinguished leadership and
immense contribution during his term of appointment. Dr Ko commended
Professor Wong for his drive and passion, which help the furtherance
of VSB's mission in safeguarding the health and welfare of animals
and the interests of animal owners.
Enacted in 1997, the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance (Cap
529) provides for the establishment of the VSB, which is responsible
for the regulation of the practice of veterinary surgery, the
registration of veterinary surgeons and the disciplinary control of
the professional activities of registered veterinary surgeons in
Hong Kong.
