Transcript of remarks by Acting SFH

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Acting Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, after visiting Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital this afternoon (August 28):

Reporter: (On the temporary suspension of the right of Professor Yu Cheuk-man to perform complicated cardiac interventional procedures in Prince of Wales Hospital.)

Acting Secretary for Food and Health: This incident has come to a place where there are a lot of public concerns. The Food and Health Bureau is also very concerned about the incident because it now has implications on clinical governance as well as risk (management) of the patients. Therefore, the Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority (HA), Dr Leung Pak-yin, will later announce (the setting up) of an independent committee at the HA Head Office level to further investigate this whole incident. We would ensure the entire incident is investigated in an open and fair manner. On the completion of investigation, the HA will submit the report to the Food and Health Bureau. We have already discussed with the HA to ensure that they will complete the investigation not only in a fair and transparent manner, but also as soon as possible.
