Hospital Authority Review Steering Committee established
The Government announced today (August 21) the setting up of a
Steering Committee to conduct an overall review of the Hospital
Authority (HA) to examine its operation in response to the changes
in society such as an expected ageing population.
The objective of the review is to ensure that the HA will provide
quality and effective service of high standard under the twin-track
health-care system. The review will cover the HA's management and
cluster arrangement, resource allocation, service levels and overall
cost effectiveness.
Chaired by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, the
Steering Committee comprises 12 non-official members, five official
members and two HA representatives. Non-official members of the
Steering Committee comprise people from a wide range of backgrounds
and interests, including health-care professionals, academics and
representatives from business, welfare sectors, patient groups and
front-line staff of the HA. Their term of appointment will take
immediate effect and will expire upon completion of the review.
"I would like to thank all members for accepting the challenge
presented by this important review. I look forward to working with
them for the betterment of our health-care system. With their wealth
of experience in the health-care field and public service, I believe
