Transcript of remarks by SFH
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food
and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function this
afternoon (May 11):
Secretary for Food and Health: The Government is very concerned about
the consequences of the filibustering by some of our Legislative
Councilors against the Appropriation Bill. For the Food and Health
Bureau, we are responsible for the provision of recurrent operating
resources to the Hospital Authority (HA), so that the HA can continue
to provide the necessary hospital and clinical services to Hong Kong
people. There is also need for the HA to make timely purchase of the
necessary medicines or equipment in the process of medical care. In
this regard, (if the Appropriation Bill could not be passed) we might
have to ask the HA to use its own reserve to run the services.
However, we understand that this reserve could not maintain the
services for a very long duration and there will be a rather serious
impact on the operation of the HA and the provision of the much-needed
hospital services to the public.
