Press Releases
SFH on infant formula supply
Following is a transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, at a media session at the Legislative Council
Complex today (January 23):
Reporter: How does the Government ensure the stable supply of baby
formula?
Secretary for Food and Health: We are very concerned about the recent
reports regarding the tight supply of infant formula. Therefore,
representatives of the Food and Health Bureau had a meeting with
representatives of the infant formula suppliers, as well as the retail
industry today. During the meeting, all parties reconfirmed their
commitment to strive to maintain adequate supply of infant formula for
local mothers and their babies. We understand that all the major
infant formula suppliers are providing free membership, as well as
hotline services and delivery service for our local parents. As far as
the retailers concerned, they all confirmed that they would stick to
the consensus that every purchase will be limited to four cans of
infant formula. I believe that with the suppliers striving to maintain
adequate supply to Hong Kong, as well as the retailers adhering the
consensus of limiting the purchase size every time, we should be able
to ensure the adequate supply of infant formula to our local mothers
and their babies. Thank you.
