Press Releases
SFH on regulation of private hospitals
Following is a transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Food and Health,
Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function this morning (November
16):
Secretary for Food and Health: The Report of the Director of Audit released
recently pointed out a fact that in the past, the guidelines for granting or
leasing or sale of land for private hospital development might not be so
coherent. In this regard, we will issue more clear-cut guidelines in future
on the conditions on which the lands are granted. In addition, we have
earlier set up a review committee on the operation of private medical
facilities in Hong Kong (the Steering Committee on Review of the Regulation
of Private Healthcare Facilities). One of the working groups under the
Steering Committee will be specifically tasked to look at how we can improve
the governance of private hospitals in Hong Kong. The Department of Health
will work closely with the private hospitals to effect the improvement
measures as recommended by the Director of Audit.
