SFH visits Yuen Long District (with photos)
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, visited Yuen Long District
this afternoon (December 1) to take a look at the development of the oyster
culture industry in Lau Fau Shan and the proposed site of the Tin Shui Wai
Hospital.
Dr Chow first visited the Au Tau Fisheries Office of the Agriculture,
Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) where he was briefed on the
current development of oyster farming in Hong Kong.
AFCD officers showed Dr Chow an oyster depuration system and explained how
the system cleared bacteria from oysters by making use of ultra-violet
light.
He then went to Lau Fau Shan where he took a look at the oyster rafts. After
that, Dr Chow proceeded to Tin Shui Wai Area 32, which is the proposed site
of the Tin Shui Wai Hospital.
The Government is now conducting technical assessment and studies on the
proposed site and will further consult the Yuen Long District Council after
the studies were completed.
Before concluding the visit, Dr Chow met with members of the Yuen Long
District Council in Yuen Long Government Offices Building to exchange views
on health and environmental hygiene issues of the district.
