SFH visits Kwun Tong (with photos)
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (July 31) visited
Kwun Tong to familiarise himself with the latest development of the
district.
Accompanied by Kwun Tong District Officer, Miss Pauline Wong, and Kwun Tong
District Council Chairman, Mr Bunny Chan, Dr Chow visited Yung Fung Shee
Geriatric Day Hospital. Touring around, Dr Chow chatted with the staff and
patients to heed their views on the hospital services.
The hospital has participated in the Integrated Discharge Support Trial
Programme for Elderly Patients jointly launched by the Labour and Welfare
Bureau and the Hospital Authority. Under the programme, it provides
transitional rehabilitation services to elderly hospital dischargees who
have difficulties in taking care of themselves.
The trial programme offers one-stop support services to elderly dischargees
who have difficulties in taking care of themselves. Services ranging from
discharge planning to carers' training and support are provided to enhance
the quality of life of the elderly and reduce unplanned hospital
re-admission rate.
Dr Chow then visited Kwun Tong Public Cargo Working Area to inspect the
progress of the district waterfront enhancement project of the Kwun Tong
District Council and the Government. He was pleased to learn that the public
would be able to enjoy more activity spaces, recreational and leisure
facilities, as well as green belts after the project was completed. They can
also view the beautiful scenery of the Victoria Harbour at the promenade.
Dr Chow took the opportunity of the visit to learn more about the Kwun Tong
town centre redevelopment project of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA).
Briefed by URA's Kwun Tong Project Director, Dr Ernest Lee, Dr Chow went up
to the refuge floor of a commercial building to have a panoramic view of the
project site, which was the largest ever single redevelopment project
undertaken by URA.
Dr Chow concluded his visit by meeting with district councillors and
exchanged views with them on how to improve the services in health, food
safety and environmental hygiene aspects.
