SFH responds to Eastern Hospital incident
In response to media enquiries on the decision of the Pamela Youde
Nethersole Eastern Hospital to immediately terminate the employment of the
mortuary technician, the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, said
today (February 19) that this was a penalty the mortuary technician
deserved.
But Dr Chow hoped that the technician would tell the truth of the missing
baby body incident to let the babys parents know what had actually
happened.
"The incident was a grave but important lesson for the Hospital Authority
(HA). I hope the staff of HA can learn from mistakes, have the courage to
face up mistakes and respond to the concerns and worries of the patients and
their families proactively.
"I believe that the majority of the staff are working earnestly and
passionately, and they would continue to provide quality and professional
health care services to the public," Dr Chow said.
