Press Releases
SFH on melamine in eggs
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr York Chow, at a stand-up media session at the Legislative Council
Building today (October 30):
Reporter: How are you going to co-operate with the Mainland authorities to
prevent eggs from being tainted with melamine?
Secretary for Food and Health: After the discovery of melamine in eggs, we have
continued to liaise closely with the Mainland authorities to ensure that they
will trace the source of melamine and whether there are common factors that
affect various suppliers. At the moment, we have also requested (the Mainland
authorities to see) whether it is possible to issue a melamine-free
certification for eggs going to be exported to Hong Kong.
