Press Releases
SFH on melamine incidents
Following is a transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health,
Dr York Chow, at a stand-up session after visiting the Yau Ma Tei Jockey Club
General Outpatient Clinic this afternoon (September 23):
Reporter: (about expanded services at designated general outpatient clinics)
Secretary for Food and Health: Since the policy is only implemented today, it is
very difficult to assess the actual demand from one day statistics. This morning
we have already screened about 700 children. About a quarter to one-third of
them need to be referred for further examination and investigation. We will be
monitoring the situation in the next couple of days to see the trend of the
parents and children coming to our clinics. We will make an assessment of how
long or whether we need to expand our service to some districts. We know that in
Northern District and Kwun Tong, there are more people demanding the service. We
have already increased the quota there. We will also examine whether we need to
further increase quota.

Chinese portion of the transcript.)
