SFH: Hong Kong is ready for equestrian events (with photos)
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (August 5) visited the
Hong Kong Olympic Equestrian venue and the Olympic Village in Sha Tin to see the
final preparations for the Olympic equestrian events.
Dr Chow also took the chance to lift the spirit of frontline staff he met. He
told the staff to be prepared for whatever challenges lay ahead and provide
top-notch venues for horses to compete in their best form. He also asked the
staff to provide quality medical and health care and to ensure safe and good
food.
Dr Chow inspected quarantine offices, stables, canteens and cafes, medical
corridors and witnessed the readiness shown by the staff of Agriculture,
Fisheries and Conservation Department, Food and Environmental Hygiene
Department, Department of Health, Hospital Authority, Auxiliary Medical Services
and the volunteers.
Appreciating the hard work and strenuous efforts the staff had put into the
preparations, Dr Chow said he hoped colleagues would display their utmost
professionalism to make the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events in Hong
Kong a resounding success.
The secretary also took the chance to talk to the French, Dutch, Canadian and
Hong Kong athletes and met President of International Federation for Equestrian
Events Veterinary Commission, Dr Nigel Nichols. Dr Nichols and the athletes are
very happy and satisfied with the facilities and services provided. Saying the
horses were settling well and happy, some even commended Hong Kong for giving
them the best stable they ever had.
