SFH visits Tai Po (with photos)
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (January 25) visited Tai
Po to have a better feel of district life there.
He first visited Tai Po Waterfront Park Pier Deck where he was briefed by Tai Po
District Officer, Mr Eddie Poon, on the operation of a local social enterprise,
Sea-Land Market. The market runs ecological and sight-seeing tours in Tolo
Harbour on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Dr Chow said he was glad to
know that the life of some fishermen had improved after joining the market
scheme.
Dr Chow then took a boat ride to the mariculture rafts in Yim Tin Tsai Fish
Culture Zone to see for himself the livelihood of fish farmers.
Dr Chow later visited Tai Po Hui Market which is equipped with user-friendly and
modern facilities. He talked to a fish stall operator about the market response
to fish cultivated under the Accredited Fish Farm Scheme. He then visited an
organic vegetable stall and was pleased to know that organic crops had become
more and more popular amid growing public concerns about food safety and
environmental protection.
Dr Chow also chatted with shoppers to learn more about their daily lives and
listened to their views on the market facilities.
Dr Chow concluded his district visit by holding a tea gathering with district
councillors to exchange views on issues relating to health, food and
environmental hygiene.
