Estimated live pig supply
According to the information provided by the Special Commissioner's Office in
Guangzhou, Ministry of Commerce, the estimated number of live pigs to be
imported from the Mainland for tomorrow (January 23) is 3800, a spokesman for
the Food and Health Bureau said today (January 22).
It is understood that there is a stock of some 700 live pigs in Sheung Shui
Slaughter House. Together with the supply of some 100 live pigs from local farms
tomorrow, the total number of live pigs available for the market tomorrow will
thus be about 4600.
The spokesman said announcing the estimated live pig supply for the following
day could enhance information flow and transparency of the market. Members of
the public and traders could better understand the overall supply of live pigs.
The actual live pig supply today (January 22) is 3534, with 3314 imported from
the Mainland and 220 from local farms. The wholesale price for live pigs ranges
from $1141 to $1663 per 100 catties.
