Estimated live pig supply
According to the information provided by the Special Commissioner's Office in
Guangzhou, Ministry of Commerce, the estimated number of live pigs to be
imported from the Mainland for tomorrow (January 21) is 3600, a spokesman for
the Food and Health Bureau said today (January 20). It is understood that there
is a stock of some 2000 live pigs in Sheung Shui Slaughter House. Together with
the supply of some 100 live pigs from local farms tomorrow, the total number of
live pigs available for auction tomorrow will be about 5700.
The spokesman said announcing the estimated live pig supply for the following
day could enhance information flow and transparency of the market. Members of
the public and traders could better understand the overall supply of live pigs.
The actual live pig supply today (January 20) is 5316, with 5179 imported from
the Mainland and 137 from local farms. The wholesale price for live pigs ranges
from $1153 to $1422 per 100 catties.
