Press Releases
SFH on live pig agents
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and
Health, Dr York Chow, at a stand-up media session at Legislative Council
Building today (January 16):
Reporter: Is the Government doing anything to stabilise the pig price?
Secretary for Food and Health: We have already agreed with the Ministry of
Commerce that we will have sufficient supply of live pigs to Hong Kong on a
yearly basis. The average daily number of live pigs supplied is about 4,500.
Daily fluctuation may happen but more importantly, we do not like to see any
manipulation of the market and giving out of any inaccurate information by the
trade. We are looking very closely at these types of activities and see whether
there are some improper activities going on.
