SFH expresses condolences to family of deceased patient
The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (January 7) expressed his
sincere condolences to the family of Mr Wong Yun-cheun who died early this
morning of suspected bacterial contamination after receiving a blood transfusion
at Tuen Mun Hospital.
Dr Chow is very concerned about the case and has instructed the independent
expert panel to try every means to track down the likely source of
contamination.
"Hong Kong has stringent operational guidelines for the administration of blood
transfusions which are among the best in the world. I am sure that the panel
will leave no stone unturned to examine the various steps of procedures
regarding blood collection, donation and administration to minimise any future
risks of contamination."
