Food and Health Bureau concerned about live pig supply
In response to media enquiries, a spokesman for the Food and Health Bureau said
today (December 6) that the Government was concerned about the live pig supply.
The situation had been reflected to the relevant Mainland authorities for
co-ordination. The Mainland authorities were now discussing with the three live
pig agents.
The supply of live pig for the past two days was stable with about 4,000 heads
per day. The overall pork supply in Hong Kong is also adequate. In addition to
fresh pork, chilled and frozen pork are also available in local market.
"We have reached consensus with the relevant Mainland authorities to increase
the supply of chilled pork to satisfy market demand if there is such a need. The
price of pork is determined by the market," the spokesman said.
