Appointments to the Hospital Authority

The Government announced today (November 30) the re-appointment of five members and appointment of two new members to the Hospital Authority (HA) with effect from December 1, 2007.

Dr Margaret Chung Wai-ling, Dr Anthony Ho Yiu-wah, Prof Thomas Wong Kwok-shing and Mr Paul Yu Shiu-tin are re-appointed for two years. Ms Polly Lau Mo-yee is re-appointed for one year, in line with past practice on the appointment of HA employees to the board.

The new members are Mr Benjamin Hung Pi-cheng and Ms Yvonne Shing Mo-han. They are appointed for two years. Mr Hung is an experienced banker and is currently the head of Consumer Banking and Chief Executive Officer (Designate) of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. He is also a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee. Ms Shing is an accountant and is currently the National Chief Knowledge Officer and Partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. She has served as a member of the Commission on Strategic Development and the Central Policy Unit.

Referring to the appointments, the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, said: "I would like to thank the re-appointed members for their contribution to the HA Board and their advice to the Government on health services. I also welcome the two new members to the board. Their professional experience and knowledge will be useful to the work of the board."

With effect from December 1, 2007, the HA will comprise a chairman, 20 non-official members, three public officers and one principal officer from the HA. The new membership list is as follows:
