Transcript of remarks by SFH on live pig agent

Following is a transcript of the remarks (English portion) by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, at a stand-up media session after officiating at the Health Care and Promotion Fund Forum today (October 22):

Reporter: The impact about one more live pig agent?

Secretary for Food and Health: Since there are more than one importer, there will be healthy competition for the market as well as for the meat supply. I think this is a very good start, particularly for the pig supply to Hong Kong. At the moment, we don't have any plans to request any further expansion. We will see what the market likes. It is not easy to source pigs from different parts of China. We need to have experience and also the good networking as required. It is not the matter of the number of suppliers but rather a number of suppliers who have all the networking as required, the experience and the expertise.
