Council on Human Reproductive Technology chairperson re-appointed
The Government today (April 11) announced the re-appointment of Dr Leong Che-hung
as chairperson of the Council on Human Reproductive Technology, as well as the
appointment and re-appointment of 21 members to the Council.
Made by the Chief Executive, the appointments took effect today for a term of
two years until April 10, 2009.
Established in 2001 under the Human Reproductive Technology Ordinance, the
Council on Human Reproductive Technology was tasked to regulate the conduct of
reproductive technology including embryo research in Hong Kong through a
licensing system and the publication of a Code of Practice for the relevant
professions.
It consists of 26 members from a wide variety of disciplines, including medical
specialists, legal professionals, social worker, scholar in philosophy and
ethics, psychologist, sociologist, local community leaders and government
representatives.
The new membership list of the Council on Human Reproductive Technology is as
