HWFB denies speculative report on poverty commission

< Back

Responding to a press report yesterday suggesting that the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, would be a logical choice for the chairmanship of a commission to address poverty issues, a spokesman for the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau said today (December 31) that the report was groundless and purely speculative.

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, earlier revealed that the Government was considering setting up a commission comprising official and unofficial members to look into the overall problem of poverty.

The spokesman said as more details of the commission would be announced in the Chief Executive's Policy Address on January 12, there was no need at this stage to speculate on the composition of the commission.
